In Dunkirk, Omexom Conversion and Storage completed a turnkey contract for France’s largest battery-based energy storage system, on behalf of Total Solar International and in collaboration with Saft.
Connected to the French RTE electricity transmission grid, the first phase of this large-scale battery-based energy storage system in Dunkirk is now in service and operating 24 hours a day.
Located on the former Total group refinery site in the Port of Dunkirk, the system is connected to the high-voltage power supply network, for which it helps to regulate the frequency. Battery-based energy storage reinforces the network, especially on the coldest winter days, when demand for electricity increases.
This iconic project helps secure the electricity supply in the region. It also addresses the problems of intermittent generation inherent in renewable energies.
Battery-based energy storage systems are some of the innovative solutions being developed to give the electrical power supply network more flexibility.
