Modernisation of a production line

In a bid to optimise its production processes, Advanced Medical Solutions resolved to modernise one of its polyurethane (PU) foam production lines.

Advanced Medical Solutions B.V., located in Etten-Leur in the Netherlands, is part of a British company that develops and manufactures advanced wound dressing products. The firm approached Actemium Netherlands to perform a complete retrofit of one of its production lines for high-quality polyurethane (PU) foam.

These rolls of foam, cut into different widths and thicknesses, are the key component in ultra-absorbent dressings used by healthcare professionals. “To ensure long-term reliability in our deliveries, we asked Actemium to upgrade our foam production line,” explains Frank Maas, the site’s operations director.

Following a detailed analysis of the machinery’s risks and performance levels, Actemium’s teams identified several areas for improvement. These included upgrades to servomotors and variable-speed drives, both of which are crucial to ensuring production continuity.

Actemium’s efforts enabled Advanced Medical Solutions to improve the safety, reliability and sustainability of its production processes: “The main benefits we gained from the modernisation relate to safety, reliability and sustainability,” says Frank Maas. “Safety for our employees, guaranteed reliable deliveries for our customers, and gradually improving sustainability in our production. Our business is synonymous with safety and quality, and these are again guaranteed for years to come thanks to our modernised production control. Plus, the updated technical drawings make routine maintenance easier.”

The project went extremely smoothly thanks to upstream testing performed by Actemium, which minimised production downtime.
