Enabling social reintegration in Hamburg

CaFée mit Herz e.V., a charity in Hamburg, works with the disenfranchised day after day to help them find a way back into society, though its Land in Sicht! programme backed by VINCI-Stiftung.

St. Pauli’s sozialer Hafen is a community centre run by CaFée mit Herz e.V. between Reeperbahn and Landungsbrücken in the middle of Hamburg. It welcomes 300 to 350 people in extremely vulnerable circumstances each day and provides them with all-round support including meals, clothes, washing facilities, medical care and social counselling.

One of the charity’s main initiatives – the Land in Sicht! programme – provides the homeless with temporary housing in individual flats and one-on-one support from a social worker. The goal is to enable beneficiaries to rebuild every aspect of their life, from their financial stability to their physical and mental health, one step at a time.

Since the programme launched in 2020, 22 people have moved out of their temporary flats and into their own permanent homes.

VINCI-Stiftung (the VINCI foundation in Germany) supports this programme with a €12,500 grant to equip flats. This initiative materialised thanks to Actemium Deutschland director Andreas Wolf, who sponsors the charity at VINCI-Stiftung.
