From organic production to employment, it’s just one step (or vegetable)!

Karine Beyer, manager of the Citeos Rennes business unit, supports the “Jardin de la Rigaudière”, a project run by the Relais pour l’Emploi association.

This organic vegetable farm promotes social inclusion through employment for people of all ages in vulnerable situations and experiencing difficulties at work or at home. They are welcomed and helped into work through their involvement in the production and weekly delivery of vegetable boxes to members.

New irrigation project

In order to strengthen its business, the association wants to install an efficient irrigation system over 3.5 hectares. The purpose of the project is to manage water resources more effectively and to facilitate incoming participants through the creation of a new machine room located 1km away from the Relais pour l’Emploi.

The Fondation VINCI pour la Cité has contributed €10,000 to the irrigation system, enabling the Péritière site to be used as a vegetable farm throughout the year.

“The project involved obtaining a licence to abstract water (6,000m3/year), digging a 70m-deep well, installing the irrigation system and securing an electricity connection,” explains Karine.

In time, the association will be able to rely on good-quality, regular vegetable harvests based on an environmentally friendly process that avoids wasting fuel.
