Fire safety and resource savings for L’Oréal

Uxello Travaux Grand Est recently installed a customised fire protection system at the L'Oréal production plant in Gauchy, France.

Uxello Travaux Grand Est recently completed a fire protection project for the L’Oréal production plant in Gauchy (Aisne department). Its mission was to adapt the water source for the sprinkler system to the site’s new supply needs, in strict compliance with the most rigorous safety standards.

The installation, which meets the NFPA 13, NFPA 20 and NFPA 22 standards, included the creation of a new source plant equipped with two motor pump units, new reservoirs with a capacity of 1,200 cubic metres, 500 metres of buried pipework, and three new control stations.

One interesting aspect of the project was its ecological approach. Rather than discharging the water used to cool the motors into the drains, Uxello designed a system for reinjecting it directly into the reservoirs.

This solution offers substantial water savings, estimated at between 6 and 8 cubic metres for each of the two motors installed, or 12 to 16 cubic metres every week. To achieve these water savings, pump outlet pressure relief valves were installed along with three-way valves. These make it possible to redirect the water used for cooling the motors to the reservoirs during weekly testing, rather than letting it disappear down the drain.

But this collaboration with L’Oréal does not end with the installation: VINCI Energies SMS Safety Maintenance Service will continue to maintain on-site equipment and ensure long-term monitoring.
