During the 100 km race in Millau Hervé Accary, a director at VINCI Energies, worked up a sweat to help save a child with a heart defect. To do this, he set up a fundraising initiative for the Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque charity which VINCI Energies supports.
Each year the 100-km Millau race attracts around 2,000 competitors. In 2022 Hervé Accary, director at VINCI Energies and long-distance running enthusiast, decided to run his fifth race for a good cause. “As a VINCI Energies employee, it was natural to draw parallels with Sam Davies and her Initiatives-Cœur boat. I want to contribute in my own way to saving children with heart defects and to raising the profile of a charity that helps children with life-threatening conditions.”
So he set up a page at Solidarity Effect platform with a fundraising target of €12,000. His aim was to fund at least one heart operation to enable a child to run around and live a normal life. The generosity of VINCI Energies employees and his professional network meant that Hervé exceeded his target. He raised €16,650 on the platform for Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque, a charity which makes it possible every year to operate in France on more than 230 sick children from disadvantaged countries.
On March 9th 2023 Hervé met Jabal, the child whose operation was funded by his initiative. Originally from As-Suwayda in southern Syria, Jabal arrived in France on January 16th 2023 and is now in great shape. “It’s very emotional seeing him look so well after the operation. He is in top form and physically able to live life to the fullest!” explains Hervé.
